Remy Lately

Well my mom and siblings have made a request for more Remy photos, so here I am to deliver!
The little fur ball is 3.5 months old and almost 5 lbs now. She's doing a little better with her crate and potty training, but it is still taking a lot of patience on my part. We do love her even more though. And, Marley is finally starting to assert herself and put Remy in her place, which we were so relieved about, as strange as that may sound!

Love this little wiener dog!

And we haven't forgotten about Marley--she's got some new quirky habits, and we have the videos to share them soon!

Also, as Joey and I have gotten into our second week on our modified Paleo diet, I've been working with some new recipes, so look for a couple new things in the next few days!

Date at Patriot's Point

Last Saturday we spent the morning at Patriot's Point to see the USS Yorktown, a carrier, and the USS Clamagore, a diesel submarine. It was a pretty neat experience to walk through the ships and see what it was like to serve on them!
Could you imagine making this many cookies?!

I was nervous that I would get anxious in the tiny submarine, but it actually wasn't too bad. I however definitely didn't like the beyond-narrow stairs on the carrier--most of the time I would sit and scootch down one step at a time for fear of falling forward on my face!
Also, I'd sure love one of those vintage submarine posters...

Loved being on the carrier deck!
Afterwards we had a lunch date at Brixx Pizza. Loved the artichokes and pesto!
We also spent the afternoon revamping our pantry with Paleo-friendly foods from Whole Foods and yummy veggies from Boone Hall Farms (as well as our first bowl of the Charleston favorite, she-crab soup!). We started our modified Paleo diet last Monday and so far its going great!

Its Amy's Birthday!

This cutie is 14 today!
I just love this girl. She always makes me laugh and has the cutest smile. She loves music, and even when she was little, she was better at memorizing song lyrics than anyone I knew. She has always loved singing along to the radio. When she was younger, she always wanted to be just like her older siblings and be just as good as they were at their various hobbies, but Amy has talent all her own and is so awesome. And she always made me feel good when she would get so excited for me to come home on break from college!
Happy happy birthday, baby sister,
I love you!

Finger Lickin' Good

Well for date night last night, we finally got ourselves to Jim & Nick's Bar-B-Q! Most of the time, when we go downtown for a date, we take a walk along King Street after dinner, and we always comment on just how dang good it smells when we pass Jim & Nicks, and how we really should go there. So after weeks and weeks of "someday we should go to...", we finally had dinner there---and it was....incredible.

Is your mouth watering? 'Cause mine is...
Apparently, their pulled pork sandwich was rated number one by Southern Living--and we agree! By far the best we've ever had. We added some of their habanero BBQ sauce and that just put it over the top. I don't know if I can eat that sauce drenched, shredded pork mess from other places again!
We also got some french fries, their mac & cheese, baked beans, and brisket and dug in family style
Love their neon pink OINK! sign
Also, see those Citadel cadets on the far right? It takes everything I have to to yell "Rah Virginia Mil!" every time I see some. What can I say? We're VMI through and through!
Another Jim & Nick's favorite: their cheese biscuits. They made leftovers at breakfast this morning!

We hope everyone's having a great weekend!

Happy Birthday Momma!

Even though I'm a day late, I still want to wish my mom a happy birthday!

And contrary to what my infant self led you to believe, mom,  I love you!

I think my mom is just great. She has gone through a lot of challenges in her life, but she has never stopped being a good mom to my siblings and me. She is an amazing sewer and knitter and makes the coolest things for friends and family. She taught me to be open minded which I'm really grateful for. She loves her Scottish heritage and I'm so glad she instilled that love in us too. She's been working so hard in school, even when things might not come easily, and I'm so proud that she'll be graduating with her bachelors degree in April. You go, momma!

I'm so glad you're my mom!

iPhonography: Life Lately

Happy February, everyone!

Aside from birthday posts, I haven't done much around these parts lately, so here's some photos from the past couple weeks---

Some of the things we've been up to:

  • We got Remy! Tomorrow she will be 11 weeks old. She's a spunky miniature dachshund and she's definitely keeping me on my toes! Thank goodness she's getting better at sleeping at night because I was about to lose my mind! Marley has been doing pretty well with the new addition, but you can tell she's still wary. She has definitely become more of a daddy's girl since Remy moved in!
  • We shucked oysters...outside....at night...in short sleeves...in January. January, people. This place is bizarre. However I suppose it is nice to skip the post-holiday-winter part and the grey ugliness that comes with it (though I'm extremely sad we missed the snow in Virginia). But if its this hot now, I hate to imagine what summer will be like....!
  • We celebrated Joey's birthday with a lunch date to the popular Tattooed Moose, as seen on Diners, Drive Ins, & Dives. We loved our corn dogs, duck fat fries (sounds more gross than it is), and cuban sandwich! Then we headed to the Apple store to get Joey's birthday present, a new iPhone. I also made him his favorite birthday meal: meatloaf with asiago mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus, and a homemade flan for dessert!
  • Once a week we go on a date, which usually means trying a new restaurant in Charleston. We have a rule for ourselves that we don't go to the same place twice so that we can try as many places as possible. This month we've tried the Noisy Oyster, Tattooed Moose, the Mellow Mushroom, Charleston Bagels, and a belgian gelato place. After eating we like to take a walk along King Street and check out the cool store fronts.

We hope everyone has a great weekend!
